Teen Bethany Mota turns bout with cyber bullying into YouTube empire
Back in 2009 Bethany Mota struggled through a rough time in her life due to cyber bullying. Turning inwards, and with an internet connection, Mota decided to start making YouTube videos that offered fashion advice among other things. She must have known what she was doing because the now 18-year-old is her own individual empire – having amassed over 300 million views on her channel! #TakeThatBullies
Bethany, who now has her own clothing line at Aeropastale, was home-schooled until she entered public school during her junior high years. Because of the bullying she stepped away from public school and in her down time started making, all on her own, the videos that have turned her into an inspiration for an army of devout pre-teen fans.
Mota’s Instagram has nearly 3 million followers and she boasts an insane 5.5 million subscribers to her YouTube channel, MACBARBIE07. Per a feature on Yahoo Finance this means that this one entrepreneurial young woman, from her bedroom in Northern California, has amassed more social media followers in the world of fashion than Cosmopolitan, Vogue, Marie Claire, Elle and Glamour – COMBINED.
It’s estimated that she makes somewhere in the neighborhood of $40,000/month from her YouTube clicks alone.
Here’s Bethany’s most recent vid from 2 days ago that already has upwards of 1.5 million views in which she gives some makeup and outfit ideas for Easter:
She still does her videos almost entirely on her own and she credits the growth of her success to being engaged with her audience. She said, “Every time I post a video I make sure to go to the comment section, and I reply to their comments. I really utilize all of my social networking sites.”
