TEEN MOM Bariki Smith released from jail after arrest for domestic battery

Bariki Smith released from jail

As we previously reported, Teen Mom Young And Pregnant dad Bariki “Bar” Smith was arrested in California on Friday, but now he is back out and enjoying his “Quick Release” with his mom Shen.

Shen posted the photo above on Facebook earlier today and wrote “Haha this is not funny. Just messing around with my stinky.” The two are showing off their “Quick Release” shirts that The Ashley reveals are from a bail bonds company.

Details about Bar’s arrest were sketchy initially as there seemed to be no record of it online. As it turns out, Bar was arrested under a HORRIBLY misspelled first AND last name. (If Bar actually provided police with a false name, then he will certainly be in even more trouble.)

According to records for “Bakiri,” there was a call to police made at 9:39 AM Friday morning reporting an assault. (There was also a call reporting a domestic disturbance an hour prior citing the two same cross streets, but I am unsure if it is related, or just Bar and Ashley’s neighbors having issues.) Police arrived on the scene and Bar was arrested at 10:00 AM before being booked a few hours later at 12:41 PM. Bar’s charge was misdemeanor Battery of a Spouse/Ex SP/Date/ETC, with the alleged victim assumed to be his fiancee Ashley Jones.

That assumption is based on social media posts made by Bar’s mom and Ashley late Friday night. Shen first broke the news of his arrest on Facebook, writing: “Bar in jail smh Ashley done put him in jail.” Ashley responded to Shen in a series of since-deleted text graphics on Instagram. “You can’t wait to run and tell everyone’s business,” she said in response to Shen’s post, “well tell them how your son was arrested for domestic violence.”

Here is the full California statute that Bar is being charged with breaking, including potential sentencing:

When a battery is committed against a spouse, a person with whom the defendant is cohabiting, a person who is the parent of the defendant’s child, former spouse, fiancé, or fiancée, or a person with whom the defendant currently has, or has previously had, a dating or engagement relationship, the battery is punishable by a fine not exceeding two thousand dollars ($2,000), or by imprisonment in a county jail for a period of not more than one year, or by both that fine and imprisonment. If probation is granted, or the execution or imposition of the sentence is suspended, it shall be a condition thereof that the defendant participate in, for no less than one year, and successfully complete, a batterer’s treatment program, as described in Section 1203.097, or if none is available, another appropriate counseling program designated by the court. However, this provision shall not be construed as requiring a city, a county, or a city and county to provide a new program or higher level of service as contemplated by Section 6 of Article XIII B of the California Constitution.

Fans will recall that Bar and Ashley have made headlines before over domestic violence issues. In early May, Ashley uploaded (and quickly deleted) a video to Instagram in which she could be seen slapping herself before then accusing Bar of beating her. She would later claim that she was merely slapping herself to regain her composure before going live, and she doubled down on her claim that Bar “does get physical with me often.”

Immediately after his release, Bar returned to social media, where he expressed his admiration for a pal that is apparently having a rougher week than he is. In addition to posting a photo of his male friend, Bar wrote:

6 times in the face and you still fighting? Get well jungle I love you ni**a ??? #WestPointTillTheDeathOfMe
#PrayForJungle GORILLAZ DONT DIE !!! ?#Ohana

I assume that Bar means his friend was shot six times in the face? If so, this is just the latest example of Bar sharing a literal snapshot of the violent environment he was raised (and apparently still lives) in. Just a few weeks ago he posted a graphic photo of his own bullet wound when he was shot in the arm a couple months before his 19th birthday. Meanwhile, Bar’s older brother is appealing his murder conviction from earlier this year, and I assume that Bar’s foster sister is still recovering after she was shot multiple times in June.

Bar’s posts, and the way that he seems to boast about them, had many of his followers criticizing him in the comments section. Bar responded with a shirtless Instagram photo of himself that he captioned with “The internet mad I’m a gangsta ? suck my d*ck if you dont like how real I am ??‍♂️”

He also added this text graphic to his story:

Teen mom Young and Pregnant dad Bariki Smith sure is gangsta

(If you’re not too afraid to do some additional gangsta confrontin’, be sure to check out Bar’s rap songs!)

It’s unclear at this point if MTV cameras were rolling during Bar’s arrest. We will try to update as soon as we hear anything about sentencing or if the battery charge gets dropped after Bar and Ashley get back together.
