Teen Mom 2 extended preview trailer with Chelsea, Jenelle, and Leah

We are only one week away from the brand new season of Teen Mom 2, and MTV has just shared the first extended preview trailer featuring Chelsea DeBoer, Jenelle Eason, and Leah Messer!

The seven-minute clip gives viewers a broad overview of what to expect for each of these three moms, and is summed up this way by the network:

Chelsea finds her happy place in a new home, Leah introduces her daughters to the new man in her life, and Jenelle struggles to co-parent when Teen Mom 2 returns January 14.

CHELSEA

Pregnant Chelsea and husband Cole have bought a brand new house on a large plot of land with a breathtaking view of South Dakota farmland as far as the eye can see. Chelsea gives a tour of the house to her producer bestie Mandi, starting with the inside. Mandi and viewers are shown numerous rooms as Chelsea explains what her plans are for each, before we are all led out to the back porch.

Chelsea instantly transforms as her face lights up with a relaxed peace, and her arms extend as though she is Kate Winslet on the bow of the Titanic.

“I know it’s not for everyone, like the whole no people thing,” Chelsea begins, “but it’s [BLEEP BLEEP] for us!” Then Chelsea becomes the spirit animal of introverts everywhere as she looks out over the railing with Mandi and says, without sadness, “If we had friends, we’d have them over for, like, parties. But we don’t have friends.” Oh man, I wish I had that house and that view so I could not invite the friends I don’t have over for parties too!

LEAH

Leah’s segment begins with a scene of her and her three daughters at the beach, and Leah looks AMAZING! Sure, she’s super trim and conventionally super sexy and all that, but she just seems frickin’ happy and healthy! Also, I know next to nothing about makeup, but Leah’s cosmetic game has come a long way baby — don’t even get me started on her hair.

Unfortunately, Leah’s clip gets very serious very quickly as she explains that her daughter Ali’s health issues continue as she is finding it more and more difficult to breathe. On a positive note, Leah reveals that Ali will have an aide at school this year — something that was frighteningly left up in the air last season.

Leah then introduces her new boyfriend Jason Jordan to viewers and to her best friend Meg. We first see Leah and Jason laughing as they recall some of the things that happened early in their relationship, and then there’s a bit of an awkward conversation between Leah and her friend Meg that seems obviously staged so that Leah could tell the story of how she met Jason. That’s OK though, I really don’t mind staged scenes and conversations that provide information as opposed to fake drama. 😉

Leah reveals that Jason is a little more than ten years older than her at 39, he’s been married twice (like her), and he has a son. She also makes it clear that she doesn’t want to rush things — which is certainly refreshing to hear!

JENELLE

Viewers get the first real taste of what an entire season of “meta” filming Jenelle is going to be like. MTV refuses to film with Jenelle’s husband David Eason, and they also refuse to film at Jenelle and David’s home on The Land. The end result will apparently be A LOT of scenes featuring Jenelle talking with her mom Barbara about what is going on in her life — which is exactly what we get in the preview as they discuss the incident in which Nathan’s mom Doris refused to return Kaiser to Jenelle and David after finding bruises on him.

Jenelle later gets emotional and begins to cry as she expresses her frustration over people not liking her husband David. “Nathan is trying to do anything in his power to try to sabotage my husband. Then everyone wonders why my husband acts the way he does, and freaks out the way he does. [crying] It just pisses me off the way everyone thinks about David, because he doesn’t do anything wrong and he does everything in his power to make our family happy. So, for everyone out there that wants to hate on David, David is not a bad guy.”

Barbara then begins to say something but stops herself.

I think I will be like Barbara here, because it’s so easy to go on for days about how the the things David does that makes people not like him have nothing to do with Nathan. Heck, Teen Mom 2 fans are anything but fans of Nathan, and it would be SO easy for someone in a relationship with Jenelle to get sympathy for having to deal with him — even if that person did get angry.

I have serious concerns about the impact that “meta filming” Jenelle will have on the show. Jenelle herself summed it up pretty well when she had an outburst a few months ago over the fact that MTV wasn’t filming anything to do with David. “Let’s continue boring ass lunches and hardly speaking on camera!” she wrote on Instagram in October. “I love it. Bet everyone else will love this season too.” She added a face palm emoji as well as this string of hash tags: #BORING #TeenMom2 #Distant #NotMe

After later adding “I’m just a prop in the background. ?? #TeenMom2,” Jenelle expressed her frustration at length:

So you ask whats boring about Teen Mom? What makes me a prop? All filming ideas are coming from my director or my mother. I’m just in the back nodding and hardly speaking like the robot I’ve turned into. Everything I suggest is denied, not including my husband in these ideas. Some examples.. THEY are REFUSED to film Kaiser’s ear surgery, Jace’s soccer game last week, Ensley’s check up appointment, my surgery, etc.

You know what IS BEING FILMED? Custody bullsh*t and drama conversations about exs. Oh how f **king fantastic. Way to go!
AND AGAIN This doesn’t have a damn thing to do with my husband…

Jenelle may be right. But, do I think MTV should change their policy on filming David? ABSOLUTELY NOT. So, in the end, my solution is pretty much the same as MTV’s: Jenelle is the cast member most responsible for the continued success of the show, so let’s just work with what we’ve got and try to make the best of it without David. (In case you missed it, producers apparently got a little desperate and will be bringing Jace’s dad Andrew back this season.)

Of course, I think the biggest question raised by this extended preview trailer is: Where are Briana and Kail?! I assume we will be getting another sneak peek featuring those two moms soon — perhaps during tonight’s Teen Mom OG finale?

Teen Mom 2 returns to MTV on Monday, January 14 at 9/8c.
