Scheduled performer Mariah Carey reportedly flaked on Rockefeller Center tree lighting
The Christmas tree at the Rockefeller Center will light up tonight with live performances from a number of artists. A handful of others taped additional songs to air during the television event — but Mariah Carey reportedly wasn’t among them, much to the frustration of NBC executives.
“Mariah Carey was so consumed with divorce talk Tuesday evening … she blew off her scheduled taped performance for the Rockefeller Center tree lighting ceremony,” TMZ reported of the singer, who was allegedly discussing a property settlement involved in her impending divorce from Nick Cannon.
Even though network commercials still list Mariah as a performer for the special, sources said she was just sent home when she finally arrived. Mariah was reportedly upset because she “didn’t want to disappoint her fans or the network.” But it seems that ship had already sailed: Fans had waited in the rainy, cold night while NBC executives and crew members “were full on enraged.”
Mariah has performed at the Christmas tree lighting a handful of times. Missing this year’s show is especially bad news for her because she’s pushing the 20th anniversary of her classic holiday album.
