REPORT NBA All-Star Derrick Rose accused of drugging, gang raping ex-girlfriend

Wizards v/s Bulls 02/28/11

Three-time NBA All-Star Derrick Rose has been accused of drugging and, with two friends, gang raping an ex-girlfriend in 2013.

The ex-girlfriend, who is identified only as Jane Doe in her lawsuit against Rose, claims that she and the Chicago Bulls point guard dated for two years, from 2011 to 2013. According to her lawsuit, in August of 2013, Derrick Rose, along with friends Ryan Allen and Randall Hampton, invited the plantiff to Rose’s home in Beverly Hills. While there, the three men allegedly “slipped a drug into her drink,” and, according to the plantiff, their goal was to rape her.

The woman says she was able to flee thanks to the assistance of a friend. Later that same night, though, she claims Rose, Allen, and Hampton all broke into her apartment and “gang raped her while she was incapacitated.” The plantiff says she only recalls “flashes” of the rape, but remembers enough to accuse all three men.

According to the lawsuit, Derrick Rose also pressured the plantiff to masturbate in front of him, and tried to get her to have sex with strangers while the two were together. The plantiff claims she refused all such requests.

It isn’t clear if the woman accusing Derrick Rose of drugging and gang rape is the mother of Rose’s child. Derrick Rose was in a relationship with Mieka Reese for several years; Reese gave birth to she and Rose’s son, Derrick Jr., in October of 2012. The pair broke up the following October.

The allegations came as a shock to the city of Chicago, where Derrick Rose is a beloved and heretofore unbesmirched figure. The 2011 NBA MVP grew up on the city’s South Side, became a high school basketball sensation, and played one year of college ball in Memphis before being selected by the Bulls with the first overall pick in the 2008 NBA draft. Rose is well-known for his donations to South Side charities and his often unannounced appearances at the funerals of victims of gang violence.

So far, neither Derrick Rose nor his attorneys have commented on the allegations.
