REPORT Kim Kardashian and Kanye West ‘only had boy embryos implanted’ during IVF
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West reportedly didn’t take any chances with the sex of baby number two: According to a new report, they did gender-selective IVF.
“She only had boy embryos implanted,” an insider told Us Weekly, days after Kim confirmed they are expecting a son. “Kim would have happily taken a healthy baby, but being able to choose the sex is the cherry on top!”
According to the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, the average cost of in vitro fertilization is $12,400 — and couples can expect to pay $5,000 to $8,000 more for preimplantation gender selection. The practice of gender selection is still less popular among medical professionals and the general public than testing preimplantation embryos for health defects: A 2014 study found that only 21 percent of adult Americans approve of using preimplantation gender diagnosis (PGD) to determine a baby’s sex. That’s only 2 percent more than those who approve of PGD for selecting personality traits.
Regardless of what the public thinks, Kim and Kanye are reportedly thrilled. So: congrats to them!
