Rapper Rick Ross arrested for kidnapping, pistol-whipping groundskeeper
So far, 2015 has been a worse year than usual for high-profile rap stars, as Rick Ross, the founder of Maybach Music Group, finds himself behind bars (for the second time in a month). Ross was jailed for some rather serious charges, and joins a “rap sheet” of 2015 arrests that includes Suge Knight, P Diddy, Nelly, The Game, and Flavor Flav.
Rick Ross (real name William Leonard Roberts II), and his bodyguard, Nadrian Lateef James, were arrested Wednesday morning at his home in Fayetteville, Georgia after an alleged incident involving a man Ross hired to work on his property.
According to police, Ross and the man got into an argument and Ross allegedly pistol-whipped him. For a time afterward, Ross did not allow the man to leave the home–thus the kidnapping charge.
For the pistol-whipping, Ross is facing charges of aggravated battery and aggravated assault.
The alleged assault and kidnapping took place a couple of weeks ago, with Fayette County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Allen Stevens saying in a statement that the agency “initiated an investigation regarding an assault which occurred at a residence on Highway 279” on June 7. Because Ross travels so much, the arrest was delayed until a time that police thought they could apprehend Ross safely.
Two days before the arrest, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office contacted the US Marshals to assist. Ross and James were arrested without incident.
UPDATE – There are new details about the incident leading to Rick Ross’ arrest. Apparently, the man who was attacked was a groundskeeper at the lavish estate Rick purchased from Evander Holyfield:
According to law enforcement, Ross forced the groundskeeper into the guesthouse bedroom at gunpoint and starting grilling him.
Cops say when Ross didn’t get the answers he wanted, he pistol-whipped the guy twice, messing up his jaw and neck and chipping 2 teeth. The groundskeeper was hurt badly enough that he couldn’t use his jaw and is now on a liquid diet.
The site adds that a judge denied Rick Ross bail and he is still behind bars awaiting his next court hearing on July 1.
In case you missed it, Rick Ross, 39, was previously behind bars earlier this month (mug shot photo above) when he was arrested on a misdemeanor marijuana charge after police pulled over his Bentley on a possible window tinting charge and found five joints inside.
