PHOTOS Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones look ‘back together’ at public event
For the first time since separating in August 2013, Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones attended a public event together this week. The estranged spouses looked relaxed and comfortable during the opening night celebration of The Library in New York City — indicating they may be more on the “spouse” end and less on the “estranged” end of the relationship spectrum.
Michael and Catherine wed in 2000 and have two children together. After weathering his throat cancer treatment and her stay in a treatment facility for bipolar depression, they separated last summer. Still, neither filed for legal separation or divorce. Michael was particularly positive about the state of their relationship, telling Access Hollywood in September they were “just taking a break.”
“We talk. I think everything will be great,” Michael said. “We’re just taking a break, a couple of issues, sometimes you gotta do that.”
Last month, Michael’s mother told The Sun her son and daughter-in-law were officially back together.
“I knew they would work it out. They’re both gentle people, not hysterical,” Diana Douglas said in March. “They’re always very affectionate and easy with each other. I figured the more everybody stayed out of it, the better.”
