Octomom Nadya Suleman could be heading to jail after alleged welfare fraud
Earlier this year, it was reported that Octomom Nadya Suleman may have committed welfare fraud back in 2012. The mom of 14 had managed to pull in an impressive $200k that year but was collecting welfare all the while. After receiving an anonymous tip, L.A. County Dept. of Welfare Fraud Prevention and Investigation launched a full-on investigation into Suleman’s finances.
Over three months after the initial investigation was launched, TMZ is reporting that officials have finally gotten the search warrants needed to obtain Suleman’s bank records and other documents including all employment and financial records which could help them prove that Suleman wasn’t eligible for the welfare she collected. According to the warrant, investigators have targeted Suleman’s home and the office of her manager who would likely have information regarding her income in 2012.
Since the investigation began, officials have been calling people who employed Suleman in 2012 to determine how much she made. Investigators have also asked the employers if they were aware of any others who have hired, and paid, Suleman.
The Suleman family are entitled to get welfare benefits if she brings in less than $119,000 per year. That sounds like a high figure but the number of children is taken into account, so Suleman’s minimum earnings needed will always be well above average.
If Suleman is found guilty of said charges, she could be facing more than three years behind bars.
