MUG SHOT Erin Brockovich arrested for alleged OUI, says she’s ‘very sorry’

Mug shot Erin Brockovich

Erin Brockovich-Ellis, the real-life law clerk who was played by Julia Roberts in the 2000 film Erin Brockovich, was arrested over the weekend after allegedly driving a boat while drunk. Brockovich-Ellis was taken to jail on Friday, June 7, where she was booked and later released on $1,000 bond.

UPDATE: The image of Erin’s mug shot has circulated and we have included it above.

According to a report by the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the game warden observed Brockovich-Ellis “struggling” to dock her boat at the Las Vegas Boat Harbor and attempted to assist her when he noticed that she “exhibited several signs showing that she was an intoxicated boater.” After an investigation, she was arrested and taken to Clark County Detention Center.

“She was obviously struggling to put the boat in the slip, and if you’ve had any experience, it’s a simple enough operation,” said Edwin Lyngar, spokesperson for Nevada’s Department of Wildlife. “This incident is an important reminder that boating under the influence is on par with driving under the influence. OUI and DUI are virtually identical.”

After a field sobriety test was conducted, it was determined that Brockovich-Ellis was “significantly” above the legal limit for the state of Nevada which is 0.08%, some reports claim she was nearly double the legal limit.

“Too many people think drinking and boating go together,” Lyngar later told The Associated Press. “We don’t have a problem if people drink. Just have a designated operator.”

On Sunday, Brockovich-Ellis released the following statement regarding the incident:

“There was no public safety risk. That being said, I take drunk driving very seriously, this was clearly a big mistake, I know better and I am very sorry. After a day in the sun and with nothing to eat it appears that a couple of drinks had a greater impact than I had realized.”
