After more than eleven years together, alternative group My Chemical Romance is calling it quits. The band made the announcement on their website Friday stating that “the past 12 years has been a blessing” but “now, like all great things, it has come time for it to end.”

Here’s the full statement:

Being in this band for the past 12 years has been a true blessing. We’ve gotten to go places we never knew we would. We’ve been able to see and experience things we never imagined possible. We’ve shared the stage with people we admire, people we look up to, and best of all, our friends. And now, like all great things, it has come time for it to end. Thanks for all of your support, and for being part of the adventure.

Gerard Way kept things a little positive with his reaction on Twitter Friday:

MCR was formed in New Jersey by front man Gerard Way and drummer Matt Pelissier roughly one week after the 9/11 attack. Way wrote the song “Skylines and Turnstiles” about the attack. Completing the band was Gerard’s younger brother Mikey Way on bass and Ray Toro on lead guitar and backing vocals. Mikey Way came up with the band’s name while working at Barnes an Noble and was inspired by the title of the Irvine Welsh book Ecstasy: Three Tales of Chemical Romance.

The band has recorded four albums. I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love was their first, recorded in 2002. The band broke out with their sophomore effort, Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge, which reached #28 on the US album charts and included the Top 40 hit “Helena.”

My Chemical Romance capitalized on their success with another critically acclaimed platinum selling album in 2006 titled The Black Parade, which made it all the way to #2 on the US album charts and featured the Top 10 single “Welcome to the Black Parade.” (Video below)

The band’s most recent album was 20120’s Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, which peaked at #8 and included the #4 hit “Sing.”
