Kate Upton’s personal trainer reveals tips, says almost everyone can get a model body
Kate Upton’s personal trainer, Justin Gelband, thinks most women can get model bodies — if they are willing to sacrifice sugar, salt, alcohol and most carbs.
“Food is absolutely number one,” Justin revealed to Harper’s Bazaar. “When I sit down with anyone to discuss their workout regimen, the first thing I say to them is, ‘The one thing I really want you to concentrate on now is limiting the amount of things you are putting into your body that you do not need.'”
Gelband, who also trains Victoria’s Secret Angels, added that avocados and raw nuts are great for sustaining energy. Although these snacks are higher in fat, it’s the healthier monounsaturated type. He also encourages his clients to keep whole grains in their diets.
“Never cut carbs completely, it’s unsustainable and your energy levels will lack,” he said, which is good news for the carb fanatics among us.
Although Gelband said diet is No. 1 when it comes to getting your ideal body, the personal trainer also emphasized the importance of interval exercises.
“Focus on 30 minutes of intervals every day. For example, if you are working out on a treadmill, where jogging is at 6.0 and running is 7.5, do a minute at 6.0, a minute at 6.1, a minute at 6.2, up till 7.5 then reverse back down.”
Even though he advises getting the heart rate up, Gelband said to stay away from sprints if you want a lean figure. Instead, he suggested focusing on Pilates, yoga or kickboxing.
Gelband’s tips are sure to help anyone get in shape, but the creator of “ModelFit” said his real goal is to help women embrace their figures.
“My fitness philosophy is based on you, the individual. Becoming ‘model fit’ is about working with your body and feeling comfortable in your own skin. What is good for you isn’t always necessarily good for someone else. What I do is all about women empowerment.”
