GYPSY SISTERS Kayla Cooper’s new husband Douglas arrested

Gypsy Sisters Kayla's husband Doug arrested

Less than two weeks after marrying Gypsy Sisters star Kayla Williams, and just four days after celebrating his 32nd birthday, Douglas Cooper was arrested and put in jail in West Virginia.

On the West Virginia Corrections website it reveals that Douglas was booked on Sunday, October 29 at 10:55 PM, and he is currently being held at the Eastern Regional Jail in Martinsburg. I couldn’t find Doug’s charges, and he is listed simply as a Pretrial Felon on the website.

The Gypsy Gossip: Tattle Tales Facebook page, which first broke the news of Doug’s arrest, has pointed out many times that Doug had an outstanding warrant for his arrest, and it is believed that someone called the law on him. It’s still unclear what that outstanding warrant was for, or who called the police. [UPDATE – More info added at the bottom of the post.]

Here is Doug’s most recent mug shot photo, which features some very unfortunate cropping:

On Friday, Kayla posted some things on Facebook that seemed to suggest that something major was going down. Along with a text graphic that read “I can face you but can u face me? I didn’t think so!!!” Kayla added the following:

I’m done with being nice to ppl!!! Why is it when ppl look out for ppl the good ones get screwed ? I wash my hands of it all! No more nice kayla or dougie here! I will say this though one day we all gtta face each other and don’t get your feelings hurt over it! I’ve herd so many ppl cry the blues and go above and beyond to help just to basically get slapped in the face. Family isn’t family anymore I trust strangers more than blood these days! What goes around comes around always remember that one

Kayla further revealed in the comments section that “This is for someone that ripped dougie off with $$$$.”

In addition to his issues with his ex-wife, Doug has also had his fair share of trouble with the law. In February of 2013 he and his then-19-year-old cousin Charles Cooper were soliciting a prostitute named Tammy Wilson-Saitch when the deal went bad, resulting in Tammy’s death. From The Daily Freeman:

Police, however, say that Cooper and his cousin, Charles Cooper, 19, who was visiting from Florida, were bent on having Wilson-Saitch perform a sex act that never occurred. Police say an argument over payment erupted and Wilson-Saitch somehow got entangled alongside the passenger-side door of a black Ford pickup they had all been inside. Police said Wilson-Saitch was dragged 100 feet, then the boys drove off, Douglas Cooper at the wheel, leaving the woman gravely injured in a snow bank. She would die later that evening at Kingston Hospital.

Amid a manhunt by city police, the two teens turned themselves in that night and were charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving death, a felony. Additional charges are possible, authorities say.

Doug was acquitted of criminally negligent homicide, but was convicted of leaving the scene of a personal-injury accident. The charge was still a felony, but Doug received a relatively light sentence of six months in jail and five years of probation. Charges were dropped against his cousin Charles.

Nearly a decade later, Doug was back in jail again after posing as a utility worker to gain access to an elderly person’s home — TWICE!

From The Daily Freeman in September, 2012:

On Sept. 18, Cooper was arrested on a felony grand larceny charge for getting inside a woman’s home by posing as a utility worker and making off with her credit cards, town police said.

Police said they had received a complaint from an elderly resident in August that a man posing as a utility worker entered her residence, claiming he was looking for a gas leak.

Police said the man had asked for the location of the boiler and was told it was in the basement.

When the woman became wary of the suspect and asked to see his credentials, he said he would have to retrieve them from his truck. The suspect left, but did not return, police said.

Doug later used the woman’s credit cards to make numerous purchases.

Fast forward four months and Doug was right back at it. From The Daily Freeman in January of 2013:

Douglas Cooper arrest 2013

Saugerties police said they received a call at 5:02 a.m. Jan. 18 from an elderly man who reported a Central Hudson employee wanted to enter his home because of a downed transformer in the area. Police said the caller was apprehensive about letting the person into his home even though the individual was wearing a safety vest and yellow Central Hudson safety hat emblazoned with the words “Forman John Smith.”

When officers arrived at the home, they found Cooper, who is not an employee of Central Hudson, a short distance away, the police department said. When officers were interviewing Cooper, the department said, they found him to be in possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

In February of last year a man named Douglas Cooper — also from Kingston — was found guilty of a paving scam along with a man named Nicholas Cooper. It is unclear if it is the same Douglas Cooper, but part of the sentencing was for the two men to pay “$23,900 in restitution to consumers, as well as $7,000 in costs and penalties to the state.” If there was some sort of payment plan in place and Doug was behind (if it is the same Douglas), then that would seemingly explain Kayla’s post and his outstanding warrant. Perhaps it could even be that Nicholas wasn’t holding up his end?

We will update as soon as we know more.

UPDATE – That was quick! I did a little more research and discovered that the New York Department of Corrections website lists Doug as having absconded from parole, which would certainly explain the outstanding warrant. The site lists his most recent charges being 3rd Degree Burglary and Grand Larceny — both of which are felonies.

We also reached out to some folks close to the situation who tell us that there was a domestic issue and someone present called the authorities to report Doug.

UPDATE – Kayla has since issued a statement explaining why the police were called on Doug, but her teenage son Richard contradicts her and says it was him who called 911!
