FIRST LOOK Carrie Underwood in NBC’s The Sound of Music
Last month it was announced that country music superstar Carrie Underwood would be taking on the classic role of Maria von Trapp in NBC’s upcoming live presentation of The Sound of Music.
It’s hard to imagine anyone other than Julie Andrews as Maria but Carrie looks to do her best and her team shared the above promotional image via her Twitter account yesterday. Underwood’s outfit is still demure but does have some notable differences in comparison to Andrews’ original ensemble.
Carrie is seen wearing a laced-up corset-style bodice as the original promotional image for the 60’s classic featured the now iconic apron-styled outfit worn by Andrews. Here is a comparison of both:
It should be noted via IMDB that, “The three-hour production will be based on the original 1959 Broadway production that starred Mary Martin as Maria and Theodore Bikel as Captain Von Trapp.” Here’s a vintage photo of Maria Martin from the Broadway version:
Other cast members that have been announced include Stephen Moyer, Audra McDonald, Laura Benanti and Christian Borle.
