A Houston, Texas veterinarian is fighting to keep her license after she posted a photo of a cat she killed with a bow and arrow to Facebook.
In 2015, Kristen Lindsey killed what she believed to be a feral cat and bragged about doing so on Facebook with a gruesome image of the animal impaled in the head. She’s seen holding its lifeless body aloft as it dangled from the arrow. She captioned the image, “My first bow kill lol. The only good feral tomcat is one with an arrow through its head! Vet of the year award gladly accepted.”
The image sparked outrage and eventually led to Lindsey being fired from her job at a veterinary clinic in April of 2015. A grand jury failed to indict her on animal cruelty charges with the district attorney stating there wasn’t enough proof to formally charge her.
KXAN reports that the Texas Board of Veterinary Examiners is holding a 3-day hearing to determine if her license will be revoked. Board Member and animal rights activist Misty Christo said, “The veterinary profession is one that holds a position of trust, and to allow her to retain her license would reflect poorly on the profession in general. The board has the right and the responsibility to protect its profession.”
When a board attorney asked Lindsey on Monday if she believes that a bow and arrow is an appropriate method of killing a cat she responded that it was efficient, but not appropriate.
Lindsey told her own attorney that she would never shoot a cat again with a bow and arrow. “It’s pretty much put me out of work for a year. I’m essentially unemployable. I’m not licensed elsewhere, so until I get this resolved, I don’t you know. There is not much I can do,” she said.
She told the board, “If I get my license revoked here, there’s a good chance I won’t ever be licensed anywhere.”
