It’s been a couple weeks since it was revealed former Teen Mom stars Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra will be appearing on the upcoming season of VH1’s Couples Therapy. The two have tweeted some updates over that time, including the photo above with Catelynn and Couples Therapy cast mate Flavor Flav that she posted on instagram along with the caption, “Oh Flavor Flav you are amazing! I’m soo happy we became such great friends! See you in the D very soon!!” But, it’s still unclear what specific problems the two were having that led to them needing to go on the show in the first place.
Catelynn answered a fan’s question about why they went on the show on Twitter last week, writing, “Well we just wanna make sure if we r to young or not to get married that’s all.”
However, Tyler’s pop Butch Baltierra shared his thoughts on their appearance in a prison interview featured in the new Teen Mom tell-all book Teen Mom Confidential. According to Butch it was the attention Tyler was receiving from other girls combined with a great deal of booze and a little lack of self confidence on Catelynn’s part.
All of the elements reportedly came together on Tyler’s 21st birthday back in January. “He got wasted,” Butch says of his son. “He got f***ing drunk! He has got a lot of beautiful women chasing him.” What kind of beautiful women? “Ones that I would hit!” Butch explains, which I don’t think really narrows it down that much.
Butch continues by revealing, “At his age, I would be pushin’ Catelynn to the side. That’s just me. But he is not like me.” I think we all know how good Butch is at pushing women to the side — literally and figuratively. “Anyway, I guess he got real drunk,” Butch continues, “and he was at a bar dancing and everything and Catelynn was with him and he was telling broads how hot they were and how fine they were. I don’t blame it on him being drunk. He was just actin’ like me.”
About a week later Butch says Catelynn began to suffer anxiety attacks. “She already thinks she’s not good enough for him. She’s too heavy. She ain’t thin like them other girls. And she was having panic attacks and calling her mom. She [April Baltierra I assume] was taking Catelynn to the hospital. The doctor said she was having anxiety attacks.”
Catelynn responded to the Butch interview on Twitter, writing, “this is such a lie!!!!!” She then added, “and butch is in jail so nice try making up crap!! That whole article is a lie” and “yea butch is in jail anyways he can’t talk to anyone they made all this crap up.”
One of the authors of the book, Sean Daly, tweeted, “@catelynnlowell Just so you know, they have phones in jail. Sorry you didn’t like the story. Just reporting the news, not making it up.” Catelynn responded with, “@SeanDalyTV get the real facts before you make stuff up I’m sure he wasted money calling u”
UPDATE – It seems the folks at TeenMomConfidential.com were beginning to get lots of allegations that they made their Butch story (and interview) up, so they have since posted the audio! Yep, here’s part of the Butch Baltierra prison interview:
As far as Tyler and Catelynn being on Couples Therapy, it sounds as though things went remarkably well, with show host Dr. Jenn Berman becoming enamored with the duo. Reading between the lines, it doesn’t appear that Catelynn and Tyler hit it off too well with Girls Gone Wild founder Joe Francis — which sounds about right.
