People beat Oprah to the punch!
The celebrity news site reported that the shocking family secret Mackenzie reveals in her book High on Arrival is that she had an incestuous relationship with her father, John Phillips from the Mamas and the Papas.
Mackenzie confirmed the story to People, imploring everyone to not hate her father. She says the first sexual encounter she remembers with her father was on the eve of her wedding day, when her dad showed up with a pharmacy and a plan to halt the marriage. She blacked out during the encounter, and says she doesn’t know if it had happened before.
Here’s an excerpt from her book describing the event:
“I had tons of pills, and Dad had tons of everything too. Eventually I passed out on Dad’s bed. My father was not a man with boundaries. He was full of love, and he was sick with drugs. I woke up that night from a blackout to find myself having sex with my own father. Had this happened before? I didn’t know. All I can say is it was the first time I was aware of it. For a moment I was in my body, in that horrible truth, and then I slid back into a blackout.”
Both Mackenzie and her father did copious amounts of drugs, and incestous sex alone is enough to make a lot of people block it from their memory. Although Mackenzie thought they were going to hell, John Phillips remained positive about the relationship, saying “We could just run away to a country where no one would look down on us. There are countries where this is an accepted practice. Maybe Fiji.”
According to E Online, Mackenzie told Oprah, in an interview that airs tomorrow, that she confronted her father before he died in 2001, saying “We have to talk about when you raped me.” He replied, “You mean when we made love?”
Mackenzie has certainly had more than the average share of demons to battle.
