Fresh on the heels of cleaning house in New York City, Bravo is doing the opposite with their most successful Housewives franchise in Atlanta by giving cast member Kim Zolciak her own series! The news comes via an “insider” who tells “Naughty but Nice Rob” with Huffpost Celebrity:
Kim’s new show is going to follow the very successful Bethenny formula. A new mom and her fiancé trying to make everything work. Juggling baby, boyfriend and career. But instead of all those trips to a therapist that Bethenny made, expect Kim to work out her problems at the nail salon with friends.
Kim Zolciak gave birth to son Kroy Jagger on May 31 and she is still engaged to baby daddy Kroy Biermann (pictured below with lil Kroy – CLICK HERE for more photos of Kroy Jr!), a defensive star for the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons. So, it does seem that Kim has a number of the Bethenny elements in place:
• Newborn baby
• Pending marriage/elaborate wedding ceremony to plan
• Charismatic assistant in “Sweetie”
• Business, in the form of her wig line
Kim has the added bonus of having two previous children, daughters Brielle (13) and Ariana (9), and being married to a successful professional athlete. She also has one of the most unlikely hit singles of the last decade with her catchy “Tardy for the Party,” which was a huge dance hit for the amateur chanteuse.
“Originally the show was to be five African American women but after Bravo met Kim, they insisted she be part of the cast,” the insider tells Huffpost. “Kim is a game-changer. She was the first housewife to release a single [“Tardy for the Party”] and just like Bethenny [Frankel], she fell in love and got pregnant while taping the show. She’s the perfect choice for the next lady to get her own show.”
I’ve always been a huge fan of Kim Zolciak’s. As a matter of fact, I am sure there were times when I would have said she was my favorite housewife. But, I worry about her ability to carry her own show. What I like the best about her is her mellowed-out, often wine-tinged reactions to the drama around her (ie NeNe). Who knows? Perhaps the drama of raising her family and maintaining her relationship with Kroy, Sr. will be enough contrast for her to shine! Or maybe we will get to meet some of Kim’s friends, which I can’t imagine wouldn’t be an entertaining bunch of folks!
There is no word how much getting the new spin-off series will affect Kim’s screen time in the season of The Real Housewives of Atlanta, but we already know she missed out on the group’s extended trip to South Africa earlier this summer so perhaps Bravo is already easing her out to make room for newbie Marlo Hampton!
Either way, congrats to Kim Zolciak on the great news! You guys want to try to help her out with a name for the show? My suggestion would be “KZ Like A Fox.”
