Amber Portwood plans to file for joint custody of daughter Leah
More than three years after she voluntarily gave full custody of daughter Leah to Gary Shirley, Teen Mom‘s Amber Portwood plans to petition for a new agreement.
“Amber is doing well and wants to file for joint custody of Leah when she’s off parole next month,” Amber’s beloved older brother, Shawn Portwood, told Radar Online. “She doesn’t want to fight for full custody because Gary is a great father. She is happy to share custody of Leah.”
Although Amber recently told us Gary is very accommodating whenever she wants to see Leah, another source told Radar the 24-year-old fears Gary could get more stingy — especially as they now seem to be quarreling over a few issues.
“If she makes Gary mad, he might prevent her from seeing Leah,” the source said. “Gary is manipulative and conniving and totally capable of keeping Leah away from Amber just because of some petty drama.”
Shawn added that Amber, who is nearing the one-year anniversary of her release from prison, also plans to apply for college in the near future.
“She wants to go back to school for psychology, sociology or criminology,” he said, explaining her ultimate goal is opening rehab facilities.
We’re bound to learn a lot more about Amber’s custody and college plans on the upcoming revival season of Teen Mom, which is set to air in early 2015.
