Rapper Magnolia Shorty murdered

Magnolia Shorty Renetta Lowe

Rapper Magnolia Shorty, real name Renetta Lowe, was killed in New Orleans in a double homicide according to police.

Lowe, 28, and an unidentified man were in a car on Bridgehampton Dr. when they were shot multiple times causing their vehicle to crash into the gates of the Georgetown Apt. complex. Both Lowe and the unidentified man were pronounced dead on the scene. As of this post there is no news as to who is responsible for the shootings. Law enforcement is seeking any assistance for this crime and encourage anyone with knowledge of what went down to call the area Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.

Magnolia Shorty was a former artist on the Cash Money label. She was recently featured in the artist line up for SXSW. She told Spinner of her dreams of being an MC:

“I wanted to be a rapper. I’ve been rapping since I was 12 years old,” said Lowe. “I was working on mix tapes and my verse while rapping at block parties. I eventually got introduced to Cash Money Records and we just went from there.”
