Little People, Big World‘s Jacob Roloff has some thoughts on American schools

Little People Big World's Jacob Roloff 2015

Little People, Big World‘s Jacob Roloff isn’t one to refrain from sharing his thoughts on social media, even when they are controversial or go against his parents’ expressed beliefs. The latest target of his rants are American schools, which he says only serve to “regulate and make uniform.”

In a series of tweets posted this weekend alongside excerpts from The Evolutionary Mind, 18-year-old Jacob said schools are networks and networks “do great harm by appearing like real communities to create expectations that they can manage human social & psych needs they can’t.” He added schools/networks also serve to dull human relationships, both with friends and family members. Instead, he said the networks only aim to preserve the bureaucracy.

After making a few more points about how “real education” doesn’t cost very much (as opposed to schools, which do), Jacob said he was done with that chapter of his book and “everyone can go back to thinking everything’s fine and we’re on the right track in this country.”

According to the Amazon summary, Jacob’s new favorite book includes “stimulating and often startling discussions between three friends, all highly original thinkers: Rupert Sheldrake, controversial biologist, Terence McKenna, psychedelic visionary, and Ralph Abraham, chaos mathematician:

Their passion is to break out of paradigms that retard our evolution and to explore new possibilities. Through challenge and synergy they venture where few have gone before, leading their readers on an exciting journey of discovery. Their discussions focus on the evolution of the mind, the role of psychedelics, skepticism, the psychic powers of animals, the structure of time, the life of the heavens, the nature of God, and transformations of consciousness.

Jacob previously said he didn’t care for studying, which led him to drop out of public school and pursue his high-school degree online. It’s unclear whether he earned it.

Even though he seems to be blazing a very different trail than his older siblings, dad Matt Roloff said in January he is pleased his kids “are individual thinkers and are developing their own paths in life. We don’t believe in ‘cookie cutter’ raising…. we are ultra proud of each of our kids and are reveling in our success.”

The new season of Little People, Big World premieres on TLC on Tuesday, July 7 at 9/8c. Jacob previously said he wouldn’t participate except for brother Zach Roloff’s wedding episode.
