Teen Mom 2 star Jenelle Eason lived a out a childhood dream on Thursday as she looked absolutely fintastic posing for a Project Mermaids photo shoot!

“I had such an amazing time with @projectmermaids,” Jenelle captioned a behind-the-scenes video from the shoot on Instagram. “I’m super thankful to have this opportunity to make my dream come true since I was a little girl, which was being a mermaid!!! I love free diving, scuba diving, and this just topped it all.”

Here’s the clip:

Jenelle then explained a little bit about Project Mermaids and the Save Our Beach project:

This is an organization that helps to clean up all the trash on our beaches! I’m here to bring attention to this issue and ask to spread awareness. We need to teach our younger generation so we can save our earth, keep it healthy, and save our wildlife. ?? #MermaidLife #SaveOurBeach

Jenelle’s husband David Eason seemed to be living out a childhood dream of his own as he could be seen joyfully snapping pictures of Mermaid Jenelle atop a rock. He posted a couple of photos on Instagram and gushed about his little mermaid. “Get you a girl that can do both…” he wrote. “My wife is amazing at everything she does!”

For some reason I thought that the combination of Jenelle and a mermaid costume sounded familiar, so I checked. Sure enough, Jenelle dressed up in a mermaid costume for Halloween a couple years back! (That finless costume featured a pair of mermaid short shorts with scales and a fun pearly beaded bikini top.)

If you are curious about Project Mermaids, the way it works is that you pay for the photo shoot (which was $750 back in March). Half of the money goes to the Save Your Beach Foundation, with the other half going to cover the cost of the tails, the photographer’s time and equipment, and any other expenses. Project Mermaids plans to release a book and have an art show to showcase the wide variety of participants.

Here’s the full scoop from the Project Mermaids Facebook page:

A day by the ocean sounds like part of the ideal life: waking up in the morning, go to the beach; relax to the sound of the waves crashing on the fresh sand. Sounds like a great way to start your day, to spend your vacations, the best place to watch the sunset, create memories. Yet, something has changed during the past years. The mass amount of trash, and the uncontrolled fishing are causing our oceans and beaches to become desolated, covered in trash like open dumps. People day by day are starting to understand that this attitude against our oceans is going to soon turn against us and few organizations are currently donating their time to open the eyes of the world. We consider this a great first step, but we need more. Our passion for the water, the ocean, and the beauty of this different ecosystem, got us together to get more people to see the astonishing beauty that is slowly dying because of our indifference. Our goal is to show how precious our ocean and beaches are, and how well people can function in and around it, photographing models and celebrities in the water, in and around the ocean wearing mermaid tails. The induced fear coming from years of stereotypes is defeated, with the knowledge that is up to everyone of us to keep this beautiful environment healthy and clean.

We are Angelina Venturella and Chiara Salomoni, two photographers that met in Southern California, brought together by the same passion for the ocean, photography and a particular eye for beauty. With our goal in mind we are working with The Mertailor Eric from Florida, which is making the tails for our models, and the result of our donation is going to be addressed to saveourbeach.org.

The photographs will be shown next summer in an art show and in a table book. This is the project we are creating to get the world to see how much more there is beneath the choppy surface of the seas, and how much more there is to work with. The world just needs to see it in order to understand it and take action.

I’m guessin’ the haters gonna hate, but I love the photos! I’m a sucker for a mermaid though, so I’m a bit biased. I just wish Jenelle would have challenged the rest of the Teen Moms to follow suit. Ummm, the #TeenMomaidChallenge maybe? I wanna see all the mother/daughter teams take the challenge and fin up! You KNOW Aubree would LOOOOOOVE it! And of course Farrah and Sophia would do it in a heartbeat. Oooooooo — how awesome would the Leah/Ali/Aleeah/Addy school of mermaids be? Amirite?!
