Nicki Minaj reveals she got an abortion as a teen, says it ‘haunted’ her

Nicki Minaj Abortion

For her new album, Nicki Minaj told The Rolling Stone one of her goals “was to give people a glimpse into my personal life” — and she proved her point by opening up about the abortion she got during high school.

Nicki explained that while attending the prestigious LaGuardia performing arts school, she got involved with an older man from Queens. Then she found out she was pregnant.

“I thought I was going to die,” she said. “I was a teenager. It was the hardest thing I’d ever gone through.”

Nicki got an abortion and, although she remains pro-choice, the decision has “haunted me all my life.” She added, “I wasn’t ready. I didn’t have anything to offer a child.”

She previously alluded to the abortion in a mixtape track called “Autobiography,” which she put out before really finding fame. Here are the pertinent Autobiography lyrics…

Thought I would have a son for you / But now it’s official it’s over… Please baby, forgive me / Mommy was young, mommy was too busy trying to have fun / But now I pat myself on the back for sending you back / Cause God knows I was better than that… I adhere to the nonsense / Listening to people who told me I wasn’t ready for you… If it’s part of God’s plan, maybe we can meet again.

In her new album, Pinkprint, Nicki again addressed the abortion in “All Things Go,” where she rapped: “My child with Aaron would’ve have been 16 any minute.”

    …what a shock.
Calling herself “mommy” to a child she aborted? Sick.

    • Pattipandi

      Ew yea, that’s creepy

    • Leah

Why is that sick? She was the baby’s mommy.

      • Amanda_56

No she wasn’t. Mommy is a name earned – and she hasn’t earned it. Mom or Mother is more acceptable – but still weird.

        • Bec

Look, she was young, alone and scared. She obviously regrets her decision now but at the time she probably felt like it was her only option.

Unless you have been young, single and pregnant please do not pass judgement, it’s a very difficult and terrifying experience.

Oops sorry Amanda meant to reply to .-. !!

Mom and mommy are the same thing. Stop trying to play the semantics game.

        • RU14ME2C

She was the baby’s Judge, Jury & Executioner .. “Mommy” .. not so much …

      • .-.

What do you mean? She never had the chance to be.

    • me

I agree! And then And then saying she proud to kill the baby and send him back. Disgusting. I do feel bad for women who have abortions.

  • Bec

Sad. Many people act like an abortion is the easy way out but for many it can have lasting effects

    • spottedgiraffe

You have to be incredibly resilient to not have it affect you. Abortion is always a woman’s choice, but a woman should think long about whether it is the right choice for THEM. This is something you never want to regret doing. It’s just a sad situation.

I have to say those lyrics made me shed a tear 🙁

  • bestfriend

She would have been a good Mom, possibly, though I can’t take the time necessary to prove it to you, the best ever.

  • jebuz

    :'(

  • Samantha

“Sent you back” OUCH. Not ok. There are always options beyond mothering.

    • twelfthnight

She probably meant that the child was sent back to god or heaven or whatever. When babies or children die, people often say things like “they went back to god” or “god called his little angel back”.

  • Jenn

I could have gone my life without knowing about this, doesn’t make me care about her. I still think the same about her as I did before.
