Amber chokes fiance Gary into a corner on Teen Mom

MTV appears to have a male/female graphic violence double standard, censoring the now-infamous “Snooki Punch” from the airing of the episode of Jersey Shore, yet they had no problem with Amber violently pushing her fiance Gary into a corner by his throat and then slapping him while screaming the entire time. Could you imagine the outrage if the roles had been reversed – if Gary had choked Amber and violently pushed her into the corner and hit her?!? (We almost get the same effect when Amber grabs him by his D-cup man boobs.)

UPDATE – I’m writing this update most of the way through Teen Mom Season 2 and it’s beginning to become apparent that Gary and Amber bring the worst out in each other and that fact VERY often reveals itself in frighteningly violent ways.

This is domestic violence plain and simple, and even though Amber and Gary aren’t physically living together or “officially” a couple they are still engaging in the cycle of abuse with each other.

In the clip below Amber explains herself after watching her latest violent outburst against Gary, and along she admits she has a problem, she still cuts Gary off and becomes angry with him when he tries to open up a bit. She doesn’t seem to be willing to change or fully take responsibility for the abuse she inflicts on Gary:

I agree with Beth, Shaggy, and Joe! Domestic violence isn’t just a one-way street. Gary has a lot of patience to put up with her violent, sobbing outbursts. And Gary might have a “lower-paying” job but he has one–a certified nursing assistant. I wouldn’t call that a go-nowhere job. The only thing that is “go-nowhere” in Gary’s life is Amber. There is no excuse for domestic violence, frustration or not.

  I disagree with AE. It is the same. My husband is a police officer and most of the domestic disturbances he goes to it is the females being violent with the male. Abuse is abuse, this episode with them infuriated me. Someone needs to remove that child from this house. Most of the time she is placed in a crib or playpen with a bottle, and hardly has clothes on I am a mother myself and yes when it is hot you dont want to dress this child to warm, but still. This is not a safe or healthy situation for this child at all and it concerns me. Did anyone else notice an episode a few weeks ago when they were putting Leah to bed and Gary told Amber that she needed to be changed and she said she would do it at midnight. Excuse me but that is wrong and you think you are going to want to in the middle of the night. I just want to take this child and hug I feel so sorry for her.

I believe that when a female has a child, regardless of what the “MAN” does..she should have herself TOGETHER! Amber needs to get up off her whinney A** and start getting things done! Having a baby does not mean “The end of the world” If anything that should make her work ten times harder for her child! No, it’s not the same.It’s easier and more comfortable to oversimplify by making all incidents of violence the same, but we’ve got a culture that is really only about ten or 15 years into deciding that it’s not okay to beat your wife and kids, and after hundreds of years of expecting–yes, EXPECTING–an self-respecting woman to slap some face to defend her honor or that of her loved ones, that’s gonna take some time. We’re on our way, and that’s a good thing. But don’t equate the slap by Amber (who can barely reach up to poor Gary’s face), which was done in principled defense of her dad, to the punch-in-the-face smackdown on Snookie, who is 5-foot-minus, by some drunk-ass douchebag more than a foot taller and a hundred pounds heavier, after she called him out for stealing drinks. No comparison. And of course all violence is bad. So is all poverty. When women are making dollar for dollar what men are and have about the same height and weight, and its otherwise a level playing field, I’ll be more inclined to condemn evenly. When one party is more helpless and the other is more empowered, we see greater injustice when the former is beaten by the latter. That’s why police brutality is so offensive. And when you get right down to it, it’s probably why we so enjoy boxing. It’s a fair fight, presumably, and may the best man win. Not the one with the biggest gun against someone essentially defenseless.

Naw. It’s not okay, but it’s not the same. And every time I hear Amber talk to Gary I want to drag her out behind the woodshed and take away her Cheetos. What an mean, disrespectful harpy. She is trying hard to better herself, but that child is gonna end up fat, angry and ALONE, cuz he might be lazy, but Gary is sweet and loving and TOLERANT. Haven’t watched this show that much, but from what I can see Amber calling someone gainfully employed lazy is the commode blaming the toilet bowl for rampant germs, mildew, and mold.

This heifer is worth less than worthless. She was lying on her fat a$$ with the cell phone (wonder who pays for that) when he came over to pick her up. She’s as fat as he is. How is he the only one lazy? Yes he should do work around the house and help her fix her car. But that heifer should have a job so she can fix her own d*mn car.

And I don’t give a sh*t about what he said to her father as long as he said it on the way out of the man’s house. None of that gives her the right to put her hands on him. It’s not the same as a 200 pound drunk punching out a girl half his size, but it’s still intolerable. And one of the ONLY crimes women commit on a par with men IS assaulting their significant other. Women who with the same education, experience at the same occupation, and who take no time off work to have children DO make the same as what similar men make. If that were even remotely true then the dumb a$$ that said this should start a company doing ANYTHING, hire only qualified women (save for a few token men to assuage any reverse discrimination claims), pay them 90% of what men in that field are making thus doing them a fcking favor of 20 cents more on the dollar, and ABSOLUTELY CRUSH their competition who’s stupidly paying all of these men a dollar for what could be accomplished at 75 to 90 cents.

Unless you were raped, nobody’s forcing you to have children. Nobody’s pulling a gun on you to get you to take off time from work to take care of the children you chose to have. Nobody’s forcing you to deliberately choose the kind of men who focus on work and paying bills, but refuse to help with the children. My father didn’t give a f*ck if it was a dish to be washed he washed it. If there was a baby to be changed he changed it. He built two houses for us nailing every nail from scratch. He didn’t look around to ask where my mother was, all the while working no less than 12 hours a day, 6-7 days a week for 40 fcking years to provide a living for his family.

Same with her, as a seamstress she made almost as much as he did. If there was a bill to be payed SHE payed it. If the trash needed taking out she took it out. Neither of them ever looked to anybody else and both were always saying what can I do to help the family.

Anybody who can’t wash a dish, change a diaper, or win some bread and pay a bill with it is full of sh*t IMO whatever they have between their legs.

I a 25 yr old male and as a male I don’t believe this is a equal world no more. This use to be a mans world, then women started fighting for their rights, which I have no problem with at all. But then women took it further and then all of a sudden this is a womans world now. Look at the world and it’s bad economy and you will see that majority of people who lost their job are men. Offices which hire more women than men right now are full with women doing what some say men cannot do because it better suits us to be working and lifting up heavy things, like in factories, warehouses, and construction. But you rarely see women doing jobs like that. A man can’t do office work? Or be a assistant because it’s not a norm. My girlfriend is a nursing assistant, and Gary from teen mom is one too but anything lower than head dog like a doctor isn’t suited for a man.

This man Gary for some reason loves Amber fat a$$. Why???? She complains about things that are part of life. Wow your car breaks down and you want the income to give up their transportation to work (which you don’t have) because you think you can’t catch a bus. Since she wants to act immature I am too. B**ch get your fat a$$ on a bus or walk. My girl complained about not having a car and this and that. She wanted to take me driving her everywhere for granted, so I let her see what life is like without me taking her everywhere and she quickly realized how lucky she has it. I helped her get her car and she now knows not to take things for granted. Gary is just soft and don’t want to be a real man and put her in her place. Amber if you was my girl I would teach a quick hot lesson. My daughter and I will have a warm place, food, clothes, and etc. You wouldn’t be sleeping, eating, at our place. Your a$$ would be on the street until you realize how good you have it. And I’m not talkin s**t, I did it to my girl. She complained about how she don’t get this and that. For a whole month I didn’t do anything for her and barely talked to her. She then came to me and realized she had something but didn’t realize it until she didn’t have it no more. I love my girl for the last 5 1/2 yrs and she started complaining how she hated that I wasn’t all lovely dovely, all the time. And until I almost died in a motorcycle accident, she realized all the lessons I was trying to teach her is things can always be worst. And something is better than nothing. Now she takes care of the things I use to and see without my help things can get worst. Almost losing her love and the father of her daughter she don’t complain about things no more.

Amber this is life. Things can be worst than this. Gary loves you and think if you ruin things with him and get with someone else and this guy beats on your a$$ like a drum. You then would miss Gary. And plus if Gary moves on and find someone who he loves and is his type. You then will be regretting it by being all alone. But you are to immature to get it. If you don’t want Gary no more just let him know and go. But you can’t let go of the one who takes care of you without being able to stand up first. So it seems like your using him to get on your feet. You want to get away from probably the only guy who wants to deal with your whinning. For what? She talks about he arguing with you but it’s you who is always arguing with him. Last night he was trying to tell you he loves you and you start saying he’s trying to start a fight. Huh???? I hope Amber looks at the show and realize it’s her fighting about things that are normal in a relationship. One always thinks the other one is lazy or not helping, when they can do more. One is always assuming that they are stressed when there really is no stress. Imagine having to work on a broken leg and every step hurts like hell in order to help take care of your child. And plus help take care of your love one. And knowing that you almost died and left them without help. Your child having to see her dad , who she thinks is superman laid up in hospital bed with scares, broke leg, and dislocated shoulder. Learning how to walk again, and really cannot deal with working but having too in order to protect your child and girl from the harsh wolds. Wow, Amber gets worse by the episode! This girl SHOULD NOT be a mother, at least not for a long, long time. Why is everything Gary’s fault? It is not just Gary’s fault that she got pregnant! Last night, she talked about how they are trying to work things. Later on, she said that if she is pregnant again it is all Gary’s fault. Really? She is dumb ass who did not learn her lesson the first time! It takes 2 to get pregnant and she needs to be taking precautions to make sure that it doesn’t happen again anytime soon. That dumb a$$ needed to stay in school…she keeps putting off her GED. She is LAZY! I really look forward to an episode in which Gary leaves her for good and starts dating someone else!

I can’t believe she actually has a baby daddy that WANTS to stick around and wants to be with her and she abuses him ( STILL as of 8/2010!) and treats him like her little slave , like he has to put up with her crap just because. I am extrememly concerned with the situation with Amber, Gary and their child. I have a degree in Social Work and worked in the field for 13 years. The abuse that Amber has shown to Gary and her possible neglect of her child would be reason to make a report to Child Protective Services. I am wondering what responsibility MTV has to difuse this situation before something horribe happens. The police should be called on Amber and intensive services should be put in place in the home if that child rememains there. And Amber—do you really need to take a martial arts class so you can learn more ways to be abusive to Gary? My husband has never laid a hand of me and we have been married for 20 yers with 2 kids, however he would definately not tolerate me doing anything like that to him amd likewise I wouldn’t tolerate him abusing me. I’m praying for that little girl!

  Barb – I agree Amber needs to be reported and the child should not be exposed to that environment. I want to address your comment about tolerating abuse. I was in a 21 yr. abusive mariage and getting out was extremely difficult. I thought I also would never tolerate that type of behavior. Until you live it, you really are not qualified to make that statement because

As a parent I will say this… Amber is the epitome of bad mother. Her constant expressions of anger & violence, along with her complete acceptance of yelling, screaming, and using profanity in front of her daughter is absolutely disgusting and something that should be investigated by CPS. During the course of the show we’ve seen her endanger that poor little girl countless time. Having a child doesn’t make you a parent, or even a decent person. But being a _REAL_ parent does — hopefully some day Amber will learn to be one.

Amber, you’re an embarassment and disgrace. Do yourself and more importantly, your daughter, a favor and remove yourself from her environment until you have grown up and can show some degree of self-control, taste, and good decision making.

I am really hoping that Gary or MTV did call the police or CPS. I was appalled while watching this episode. Amber should not be left alone with Leah. She is lazy and neglects her. God knows what she will do if Leah were to make her angry enough. I don’t even think that Leah should be left with Gary, as he is pretty immature himself.

I hope something is done about this, if not, it only sends messages that such behavior is acceptable.

The person to email is mailto:Michelle.Burns@dcs.in.gov she is the regional manager I found info online for. I think they need to look into this matter cause MTV doesn’t seem to be doing anything.

This is what needs to happen….Gary get Leah away from that psycho and go to your moms. Tell your mom that you need to stay there until you can get on your feet and get settled for Leah. That is Leah’s grandmother and she needs to help you out for the sake of Leah. Gary you have all the proof you need to get Leah away from Amber. Amber you are a pathetic excuse for a person, who in the hell do you think that you are!! Gary you might feel that you love Amber but love Leah more and recognize that she must come first. I do feel that you are a good person, and father so do the right thing and remove Leah from this hostile hell of a life that she lives in. Amber is a PYSCHO. She seriously needs help. The situation with Amber and Gary isnt even entertaining. I actually felt bad for Gary and Leah after watching last night’s and last weeks episode. If Gary hit Amber he would be in jail and Mtv would be helping press charges but because this “Frightmare” Amber is a woman her abuse is okay?? An email was sent to CNN containing video clips from Teen Mom in regards to Amber neglecting her daughter and assaulting Gary on several occassions. The email asked for CNN to get involved and investigate and ask questions why MTV did not report any of these incidents and to ask to get the authorities and child protective services involved. Several hours later I found this article on the local newspaper website. Our prayers may be answered!

Wow…can not believe no one intervened on Leigh’s behalf. I am an orthopedic nurse and I am here to tell you that you should never, ever, ever, pick up a small child by the arms the way that Amber was flinging her child around. Children’s shoulders are not yet fused and can be easily dislocated. I was just at a wedding and a father was dancing with his child, who spun around and her shoulder dislocated! The pain is horrific..I won’t even mention the child witnessing the verbal and emotional abuse..

Amber is the worst mother I have ever seen and I’m teacher so I see a lot. I don’t think Gary is the best role model of a father/man, but if Leah is to grow up with any semblence of what good people are like, someone needs to get Leah out of there and away from her. It kills me to see the parts of the episodes where Amber is having yet another meltdown in front of her baby.

There is not one person on television that can drive me crazy me more than seeing this terrible excuse of a mother. She instigates fights with Gary in FRONT of her baby. She loves it!! She emotionally abuses him and calls him a fatass.. I mean, im sorry look at yourself from the beginning of the show. She has no room to call him that. And having been that overweight herself, wouldn’t you think she would have SOME sympathy? no. She is the only person she cares about. There is no pleasing Amber no matter what… your damned if you do, damned if you dont. I swear if I personally knew her..I would gladly punch her in the face. Even in this video clip with Gary and Amber discussing watching the fight, she still finds SOMETHING to get mad at him for and blame him for. Gary needs to take Leah and run from this insane Amber. I think Gary has more sense and maturity and he really is afraid for his daughter’s safety. He needs to report Amber’s abuse and fight for sole custody of Leah (that is of course, if what we are seeing on TV is the real thing and not an act for the show).
