On Tuesday in Knoxville, Tennessee WVLT reporter Hilary Magacs was on the scene of the brutal stabbing of a 61-year-old at an apartment complex when something startlingly bizarre happened.
Magacs was talking to a neighbor who stated that she believed the victim’s daughter, Katie Nichols, was the one to blame for the crime that had happened in the early morning hours. The neighbor, who wished to remain unidentified said that Katie had taken off after the stabbing with her young daughter.
The neighbor said:
“She’s not emotionally stable and does the best she can, but needs quite a bit of help. I almost kind of hope that she does come back through here so we can get the authorities to get her.”
As cameras rolled, Katie Nichols walked up to the reporter less than 5 minutes later and confessed to the crime. She stated that she was the victim of satanic rituals and that her mother was the ringleader.
The arrest warrant that was issued for Katie alleged that she had stuffed a sock in her mother’s mouth and tried tying her up. The warrants say she strangled her until she lost consciousness, and then stabbed her mother in the neck, chest and stomach using scissors and two knives.

Nichols told Magacs in a desperate tone before being arrested on charges of first degree murder and especially aggravated kidnapping:
“The satanic cult in this city has been casting satanic spells on me for three, four days. I’m exhausted. I came home and found out my mom was the ringleader and was trying to kill my daughter. I had to kill her – she was going to kill both of us. She was so powerful, I had no idea – I had no idea that my mother was that powerful. When I left, she was still breathing. I stabbed her three times and she should have died. She was still breathing. I don’t know what happened to her afterwards or where they took her, but she was the antichrist – she did not die. She had symbolic representations of my death, my daughter’s death, every nuclear explosion that was supposed to happen – that’s not going to now. Because all of the satanic cult has been rounded up and killed now.”
Other neighbors stated that they were glad Nichols had been apprehended and that they hoped she would get the help she needs.
After receiving the unexpected confession Hilary contacted 911. She told her own station that, “I was a little scared but she never threatened me. I’m just really grateful that everyone remained safe until deputies arrived.”
