Angelina Jolie reportedly planning to remove her ovaries
Angelina Jolie stunned the world when she revealed Tuesday that over the past few months she’s been undergoing procedures in association with a double mastectomy to reduce her chances of developing breast cancer because she has a mutation in her BRCA1 gene. This choice has reduced her breast cancer risk from 87% to only 5%, but she still has a 50% chance of developing ovarian cancer, the very disease that killed her mother. Will Angelina get a hysterectomy or remove her ovaries to reduce her risk of this cancer?
According to People Magazine, the 37-year-old actress isn’t planning to have a full hysterectomy, which removes the uterus, but IS planning a surgery to remove her ovaries, called an oophorectomy, which may trigger early menopause, which has it’s own risks.
