VIDEO The Secret Life of Marilyn Monroe Lifetime miniseries trailer
Earlier this month we shared the first photos of actress Kelli Garner as Marilyn Monroe in the upcoming Lifetime miniseries based on the icon’s troubled off-screen life, and now we have the very first trailer!
But before we get to that, let’s take a look at Kelli Garner as Marilyn Monroe wearing only a pillow:
OK, back to the preview trailer… Featuring the sound of Lana Del Rey’s song “Young and Beautiful” the clip features Kelli in the titular (heh heh) role with Academy Award winner Susan Sarandon as Marilyn’s troubled mother Gladys:
In addition to Kelli and Susan, the film also stars Academy Award and Golden Globe nominee Emily Watson as Marilyn’s childhood guardian Grace McKee, Susan Sarandon’s daughter Eva Amurri Martino as young Gladys Mortenson, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Marilyn’s husband Joe DiMaggio.
The Lifetime miniseries, which premieres May 30th & 31st at 9/8c, is based on the New York Times best-selling book with the same tile by author J. Randy Taraborrelli and “uncovers many closely-guarded secrets the blonde bombshell kept from the public,” according to the network.
One of our writers is currently reading through the book and although she is only a few chapters in, she says the story is AMAZING. Be sure to check out her posts about Marilyn’s grandmother Della, who once tried to kill Marilyn, and the identity of Marilyn Monroe’s dad.
“I think you’ll be surprised to learn about the mental disease that ran in her family,” Kelli Garner told Entertainment Tonight recently. “I had no idea that her mother was in and out of institutions — diagnosed schizophrenic.” Despite her troubled background, Marilyn was able to become one of the most famous people on the planet. Unfortunately, her inspiring ascension to fame came with a price. “She went from nothing to being on the top of the biggest mountain to just tragically tumbling right off of it,” Kelli said.
