VIDEOS Violent girl fight highlights serious problem at Gibbs High in Florida
Things broke bad in a Florida high school classroom as a vicious girl fight broke out after tensions escalated. Prior to the melee, the teacher can be seen trying to break up the fight but no assistance is offered to her as other students egg on the violence. The video above was posted to Facebook by a student in the class.
The fight happened at Gibbs High School in St. Petersburg on Tuesday. According to the Tampa Bay Times the teacher requested help although Pinellas County Schools spokeswoman Melanie Marquez Parra is not sure at what point during the fray this happened.
Both students involved in the fight are facing punishment, as well as the young man who recorded the video.
The embed for the clip above is rather small in size but it’s the entire recording. Here’s a YouTube version of the brawl only (all of these videos contain course language and violence):
School Board member Rene Flowers said, “I am extremely hurt because we have really been making strides and Gibbs itself has been making strides. Now you have this situation that sets it back.” Flowers represents the section in which Gibbs resides and added that she was dismayed at the disrespect the students showed their teacher. “Maybe we need to put panic buttons in the classrooms,” she said.
When Flowers talked about how “this situation sets it back,” my YouTube hunt for the current brawl highlighted that sad acknowledgement. As I typed in “Gibbs Hi…” the search auto-filled “Gibbs High Fights,” not a good sign.
Here’s another brawl published on Oct. 18 that is identified as being from Gibbs:
Annnnnd here’s another attributed to Gibbs published on Oct 26:
In another report via ABC Action News on March 5, a 16-year-old was arrested after he brought a loaded gun to Gibbs.
Sounds and looks to me like Gibbs needs Joe Clark as bad as fair old Eastside ever did.
