VIDEO Tim Tebow signs with the New England Patriots
Just when it was thought Tim Tebow might be exiting the NFL for good after being cut by the New York Jets in April, the polarizing quarterback signs with the highest profile franchise in the league! The career resurrecting New England Patriots announced on Tuesday that they signed the 25-year-old Heisman Trophy winner to a 2-year contract!
“Anything we do is what we feel is in the best interest of the team,” Patriots coach Bill Belichick told reporters on Tuesday. “Tim is a talented player, is smart and works hard. We’ll see how it goes.”
Here’s a video report on the Tim Tebow signing with ESPN analysts Trey Wingo and Tim Hasselbeck from Foxboro Stadium:
Tim will be battling for the backup quarterback position behind Pro Bowl starter Tom Brady with current second-string qb Ryan Mallett. Though who will win the coveted slot behind Brady is yet to be determined, Mallet has already won one small battle as he currently wears the number 15 jersey, the number worn by Tim Tebow in his first three years in the league with the Denver Broncos and New York Jets. Tim has dropped the one and is currently wearing jersey number 5 at the team’s mandatory minicamp.
Of course, given Tebow’s amazing athletic skill set and Bill Belichick’s propensity for thinking outside of the box when it comes to using players at various positions, it remains a possibility that the backup quarterback position isn’t the only spot Tebow is competing for. Belichick was asked by reporters which position Tebow will be playing, and the always enigmatic Bill responded with, “We will see.”
