The drama mamas of Teen Mom 2 will be back as MTV has reportedly renewed the popular reality show for a ninth season!
The Ashley’s Reality Roundup broke the news earlier today, reporting that all of the moms have signed their contracts except Jenelle Eason. A source reveals that MTV has been trying to work out a deal through Jenelle’s attorney, but her demands have completely stalled the negotiations.
“Some of the executive producers have been on the phone [with the lawyer] for the last few days, trying to negotiate,” a source tells The Ashley. “She was not budging and MTV was not budging.”
As you might have guessed, the big stumbling is Jenelle’s husband David Eason. Jenelle is demanding that he at least be allowed around her while filming, but MTV producers are holding firm on what amounts to a protective order for the crew by refusing to film anywhere near the balloonatic.
“Basically, Jenelle wants David included in filming, and if that’s not possible, she wants him to be allowed to be around while she’s filming,” the source says. “She doesn’t care if he isn’t shown on-camera or paid. She told [the producer] that if she is filming at their home, she is not going to make David leave.”
And the hang up isn’t just filming in North Carolina, it also includes Reunion and after show filming. “She also wants him to be able to attend Reunions and other filming events with her – even if he doesn’t go on camera – and for MTV to pay for his travel,” the source adds.
MTV was reportedly holding firm, and negotiations are currently ongoing.
Unlike Jenelle, her original co-stars Kail Lowry and Chelsea DeBoer have reportedly signed their contracts with no new demands — although I am certain there was at least a verbal agreement between Kail and producers as far as Reunion accommodations and proximity to certain other co-stars go!
Also, I will remind you that Kail has stated her son Isaac will not be on the show, and neither will Isaac’s dad Jo Rivera or soon-to-be step-mom Vee. Kail’s youngest son (for now) Lux may also be off the show as his father, Chris Lopez, has stated that he no longer wants him to appear.
Unlike some of her co-stars, Chelsea tends to make headlines with what she doesn’t do — and that is the case here as well. I don’t want it to be lost in the shuffle that it is fairly big news that she is coming back! She had hinted that she might not, and there was a LOT of speculation that she wouldn’t because of the Jerry Springer- and Real Housewives-esque direction the show has taken recently. I for one am thrilled that she has agreed to continue sharing her and her family’s story with us!
Leah Messer apparently tried to to test the contract waters a bit, including a request for a professional makeup artist to help her prepare before filming, but “MTV told her no way!”
And what about new addition Briana DeJesus, who was talking big about how she quit the show after her recent Reunion meltdown? MTV reportedly threw some extra money her way, and she jumped back on board faster than a Javi Marroquin rebound!
“Briana got a big pay increase because it is her second season,” The Ashley’s source reveals. “There was no way she was turning that down.” (You may recall that our Reality TV Predictatron 3000 robot foresaw all of this weeks ago, concluding that there was a mere 0.003% chance that Briana would actually quit the show.)
