RHOC: Why Emily Simpson’s mom waited 3 years to see her youngest grandkids

Tonight’s episode of Real Housewives of Orange County sees Emily Simpson’s mom travel to the area for the first time in three years to see her youngest grandkids twin boys Luke and Keller. She was present for their delivery, but stayed away afterwards. The scene where Grandma reunites with the kids seems to be tinged with awkwardness because the boys aren’t familiar with their grandmother and Emily explains in the interview that she harbors some resentment over the reason her mom has not seen the kids.

“Do they look like how you imagined,” Emily asks her, and her mom says that she’s still been keeping up with pictures so she did know what they looked like.

She had seen her oldest grandchild Annabelle a year ago when Emily took her to Ohio to visit. Since that visit, Emily’s mom reveals she’s “lost” a year to depression and feels that she has a lot to make up for.

In the interview Emily says she has high expectations when it comes to family, especially her mother. “When those expectations aren’t met, that’s when I feel angry or neglected or upset,” Emily explains. She says once that happens, the relationship starts to suffer. It does look like Emily and her mother are working to repair their bond.
