PHOTO Nicki Minaj responds to Bill Cosby Halloween costume controversy
It might be November, but the Bill Cosby Halloween costume controversy continues to captivate onlookers. Nicki Minaj waded into the ongoing #PillCosby debate with a Halloween Instagram post in which she appeared to take defenders to task.
In case you missed it, the Bill Cosby Halloween costume controversy erupted over the weekend, thanks to the hashtag #PillCosby. The homemade costume features a cardboard cutout of Cosby, stuffed into a sweater, with its arms wrapped around the “victim,” a bottle of pills in one of its hands, and the other stuffed into the victim’s shirt.
#PillCosby received a great deal of attention on social media–and the Bill Cosby Halloween costume controversy picked up even more steam when Minaj shared a screencap of the costume to Instagram:
In one day, Minaj’s version of the photo received 297,000 likes. Even more significantly, it garnered just under 9,000 comments, or approximately four times more than the average Nicki Minaj Instagram post.
Minaj has yet to say anything more about the Bill Cosby Halloween costume controversy, though, and her sole statement left some observers puzzled. Did she mean that “our generation” is desensitized to the sorts of crimes against which Cosby is accused, and is therefore callous enough to make a Halloween costume depicting those crimes? Or did she mean that the response to the costume was too much–that there shouldn’t have been a Bill Cosby Halloween costume controversy in the first place?
(So far, a total of 55 women have accused Bill Cosby of a variety of crimes relating to sexual assault.)
What do you, the viewers at home, think? Is #PillCosby just a sick joke, and nothing more? Or should we all be offended that it exists?
