PHOTO: Kail Lowry tweets old pic with mom Suzi, why don’t they speak anymore?

Teen Mom 2‘s Kailyn Lowry has had a thorny relationship with her mom Suzi her whole life, and they haven’t spoken with each other in a long time (although Kail did tweet a while back that Suzi left a drunken voicemail.) Kail has cut Suzi out of her life because of her substance abuse problems, but for Twitter’s #ThrowbackThursday she took a moment to relive happier times.

She posted the above photo on Twitter, saying this was from Kail’s freshman year of high school when her mom Suzi was 9 months sober.

Kail opened up to Starcasm about a bipolar diagnosis she and her mom share. Kail has been going to therapy and exploring her medication options to treat her condition, but it looks like her mom has joined the ranks of many bipolar sufferers who self-medicate instead of getting professional treatment.

In 1996 Kathleen Brady, M.D., Ph.D., an associate professor of psychiatry at the Medical University of South Carolina, explained at the U.S. Psychiatric & Mental Health Congress that “substance abuse occurs in 30% to 60% of patients with bipolar disorder and is more likely to coexist with bipolar illness than with any other Axis I psychiatric disorder,” and “2% to 4% of alcoholics and up to 30% of cocaine abusers meet the diagnostic criteria for bipolar disorder.”

Here’s a clip of Kail in a Teen Mom 2 aftershow clip discussing with Maci Bookout why she was angry that Jo let her mom see Issac after they haven’t seen each other in a year. Kail went on to say that she explains Suzi’s absence in his life by telling him that she doesn’t have a mother.

“I don’t know what the right answer is,” Kail says. “As a mom, I just can’t understand leaving your child behind.”
