REPORT Nicki Minaj leaving America Idol
Nicki Minaj signed on to be a judge for American Idol just before their current season began airing, joining fellow R&B diva Mariah Carey. The two personalities didn’t mesh well to say the least, and many fans feel that their non-stop feuding has taken away from the mission of the show — which is to find America’s top singer, not be a reality show about drama between the judges. With the show’s ratings at an all-time low, producers are feeling the pressure to make a change, and it appears that Nicki Minaj won’t be returning next season.
“It’s safe to say she isn’t coming back to Idol,” an insider tells Us Weekly. “She’s okay with it. She had a great time but was only going to do one season anyway.”
Nicki and Mariah often feuded on the show and at times, their arguing even flooded onto Twitter. Just last week, Nicki spoke with E! News about their ongoing issues and how when she first signed on to the show, she’s thought they’d be friends.
“Imagine someone that you loved your whole life…imagine you meeting them and then all of a sudden feeling like you did something horrible to them but you just don’t know what you did,” she told Ryan Seacrest. “That’s what my relationship with Mariah is, and that’s what it’s been from the beginning.”
Along with Nicki, Randy Jackson will also be parting ways with the series after the current season, which he announced last week. In addition to that, there have been rumors that the other two judges, Mariah and Keith Urban, will also be leaving the show.
Now that she’ll have more time on her hands, Nicki plans to put all her focus on her new album and upcoming tour. Oh, and her new clothing line with KMart of course.
