New Tina Fey sitcom picked up by NBC
Good news: A Tina Fey sitcom is coming back to NBC! Bad news: It won’t premiere until Fall 2014.
The yet unnamed show was created by Tina and 30 Rock co-producer Robert Carlock. Unlike most shows that go into an incubation period after filming a pilot, NBC immediately ordered 13 episodes.
“(Tina and Robert) have created a new signature comedy for us that is audacious, emotional and clever,” NBC Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt said. “While tapping into very relatable themes, there isn’t anything like this anywhere else on television. NBC has been their home for many years and we’re so happy that they’ve found another way to push the comedy envelope for us.”
Although the show doesn’t have a title, it does have its leading lady in Ellie Kemper. The funny actress is best known for her performances in Bridesmaids and The Office.
“We watched (Ellie) grow up on The Office from supporting player to leading actress,” said Jennifer Salke, NBC entertainment president. “We feel fortunate to be in business with this entire creative team on something so funny, unique and attention-getting.”
The premise is that Ellie’s character recently escaped a doomsday cult and is attempting to start anew in New York City.
At this point, Tina’s role is strictly behind the camera… Of course there’s plenty of time for that to change before next fall.
