Miley Cyrus and Sinead O’Connor feud escalated quickly
In short order, the online war of words and images between Miley Cyrus and Sinead O’Connor has now included dismissive tweets, making fun of Amanda Bynes and mental illness, expletive laden open letters and threats of lawsuits…
It started when Miley mentioned how Sinead’s “Nothing Compares 2U” video inspired her nude demolition equipment straddling music video for “Wrecking Ball.” Sinead got asked about that and decided to respond with an open letter suggesting to Miley that she not let the music business prostitute her and that her talent alone was enough without all the overt sex.
Miley fired back at that by reposting some old tweets from Sinead that the latter claims came during a time when she was struggling with serious mental illness issues. Miley tweeted:
“Before Amanda Bynes …. There was…
Then Miley posted the infamous image of Sinead from her performance on Saturday Night Live during which she ripped up a photo of the Pope in protest of the child abuse scandal in the Roman Catholic Church. O’Connor was widely criticized for the gesture at the time with the following week’s guest host, Joe Pesci, holding up the image taped back together. He then ripped up a photo of O’Connor (to huge applause) stating that if he’d been on the show he would, “have gave her such a smack.”
Sinead, who was a victim of abuse as a child and has made the defense of abused children her primary concern, replied with some vitriolic comments via her Facebook page to Miley’s Amanda Bynes reference and the retweets:
In a post titled “Another Open Letter To Miley Cyrus” she began by addressing her tweets:
“Miley… Really? Who the f**k is advising you? Because taking me on is even more f**kin’ stupid than behaving like a prostitute and calling it feminism. You have posted today tweets of mine which are two years old, which were posted by me when I was unwell and seeking help so as to make them look like they are recent. In doing so you mock myself and Amanda Bynes for having suffered with mental health issues and for having sought help.”
It goes on from there and ends by addressing the Pope image controversy:
“By mocking it you mock every child who suffered sexual abuse at the hands of priests and had it covered by the Vatican. You could really do with educating yourself, that is if you’re not too busy getting your t*ts out to read.”
She followed that up by letting her fans know that the tweets via Miley were not recent, that she is doing okay and that Cyrus would be hearing from her attorneys about the matter.”
After this, Miley replied with the following tweets:
Sinead. I don’t have time to write you an open letter cause Im hosting & performing on SNL this week.

So if youd like to meet up and talk lemme know in your next letter. 🙂

Sinead then wrote another lengthy open letter… This one began with:
“I have no interest whatsoever in meeting you. You had plenty of time yesterday to abuse Amanda Bynes .. an entirely innocent party.. and myself.. who also did nothing to deserve your abuse.. along with every other sufferer of mental health problems and every person who suffered abuse at the hands of priests. You can take five minutes today between g- string f**kin’ changes to publicly apologise and remove your abusive tweets. If you do not then you don’t give a sh*t who you mock and what damage you do by being so ignorant.”
