Man suing hospital after going in for circumcision, getting penis mistakenly amputated
Alabama man Johnny Lee Banks Jr. claims he went into the hospital last month for a routine circumcision and awoke to discover his whole penis was amputated.
According to Reuters, the 56-year-old man claims doctors didn’t offer any explanation for the operation. He says the amputation has since caused him and his wife great pain.
“My client is devastated,” said the Banks’ attorney, John Graves.
The couple filed a lawsuit on Tuesday against Princeton Baptist Hospital in Birmingham, the Simon-Williamson Clinic, Urology Centers of Alabama and two doctors. They seek unspecific monetary damages.
The Banks’ story seems fishy for a few reasons. For one, Johnny, who doesn’t work due to a disability, couldn’t recall the exact date of the operation and “believed it” happened in June. The defendants also told The AP the claims “lack merit” and they plan to “defend all counts aggressively.”
