Dog who shot Florida man not arrested according to authorities

Greetings from Florida

35-year-old Gregory Dale Lanier was riding in his truck when his 4-legged best friend took the concept of riding shotgun way too seriously.

Mr. Lanier, who hails from Frostproof, Florida, informed the Sebring Police that while he was cruising down State Road 17 North his dog kicked a gun that was laying on the truck’s floor, causing it to fire resulting in Gregory Dale being shot in the leg.

Police Cmdr. Steve Carr told Highlands Today that the dog was not detained or arrested pending the investigation. It was later determined that the incident was an accident. Thankfully for Gregory Dale, he was not seriously injured.

According to the police report, Lanier stated that his pistol-packing pup stepped on his unloaded .380 followed by a loud boom, smoke and the sensation of his leg burning. Lanier was surprised when he discovered that the gun was actually loaded and that it was not a .380, but instead a 9mm.
