Below Deck fans and cast members are sending get well wishes to Below Deck Mediterranean bosun Malia Hhite after she was injured while riding a scooter on the island of Mallorca this week.
Malia herself broke the news with a series of before-and-after photos and videos. The before gallery featured Malia looking Instagramtastic as she posed on a blue Vespa scooter wearing a white midriff tank top and shorts. In another photo, Malia did a handstand. Most of the gallery, however, was comprised of amazing scenic shots of Mallorca.
“Had an amazing day exploring the island of Mallorca with my crew mates by scooter!” Malia captioned the post. “But it didn’t end as nicely as it started…”
Malia followed up the “before” gallery with an “after” gallery that included two photos of herself in a hospital with numerous bandages on various parts of her body and stitches over her eye:
“On Instagram we usually share the pretty stuff but this is the important stuff,” Malia began her caption for the hospital selfies. She then revealed that the accident was earlier this week and she was in the hospital when the new season of Below Deck Med premiered on Monday. “I spent the premiere night in a hospital bed after having a mean accident on my scooter,” Malia said.
For those fans wondering if perhaps the accident might have been due to Malia’s inexperience riding scooters, she clarified that was not the case at all. “I’ve been riding scooters my whole life, was familiar with the equipment, wasn’t drinking and was 10 minutes from my boat. Accidents happen when you least expect them.”
As you can tell from the photos, Malia suffered quite a few injuries. She assured everyone that they were serious, but not that serious. “I was able to walk away with a few stitches, fractured elbow, broken toes, severe road rash and a very sore body.”
Malia also assured her followers that she wasn’t reckless enough to ride the scooter without a helmet. “I don’t want to imagine what the case would have been without my helmet!” she said of her injuries. “I’m sharing this to express the importance of always wearing a helmet. Mine quite literally saved my life.”
Will the accident keep Malia off scooters forever? “I won’t hang up my scooter keys just yet…” Malia said. “But I’m definitely aware of the importance of cruising safely!” Malia concluded her caption with a 🛵 and 🤕 emoji as well as a string of hash tags that included #scooteraccident, #ridesafe, #alwayswearahelmet, #bruisedup and #lucky.
