Ashley Judd and her husband Dario Franchetti have split after being married for more than a decade. The news comes as a shock to many, especially since Ashley and Dario were so private and had been each other’s first marriage. Plus, they were together for so long — in Hollywood years, a decade is practically a lifetime!

“We have mutually decided to end our marriage. We’ll always be family and continue to cherish our relationship based on the special love, integrity, and respect we have always enjoyed,” Ashley and Dario told PEOPLE exclusively in a joint statement earlier this evening.

Ashley and Dario became engaged in December of 1999 and were married in a private ceremony in Scotland on December 12, 2001. Since then, the couple had been splitting their time between their home in Scotland and a second farm home outside of Franklin, Tennessee.

The two have no children together, which is exactly what Ashley wanted. She has previously stated, “It’s unconscionable to breed, with the number of children who are starving to death in impoverished countries.”

Ashley is currently working on Olympus Has Fallen, a new action flick about a terrorist attack on the White House in which she plays the First Lady of the United States. The film is due out in March of 2013.
