Caitlyn Jenner’s first blog on transgender issues: Am I doing it right?

Caitlyn Jenner admits she has “a lot of catching up to do” in regards to learning about the transgender community, but said she’s eager to do it in her first “The Real Me” blog post.

“Up until now, I have totally isolated myself from the transgender community,” she said. “I feel such a responsibility to this courageous group to try to get it right and tell all sides of the story. To me, that’s always the biggest question: am I doing it right?”

After making her debut on the cover of Vanity Fair last month, Caitlyn attended Pride events in New York City and has talked about her support group of transgender women. In her new post, Caitlyn said she’s learned a lot about general LGBT issues in a short period of time.

“It’s been an eye-opening experience for me—mainly realizing how fortunate I am,” she continued. “I’ve heard every horror story there is in the book. You wouldn’t believe the types of ordeals these people have had, how they have had to literally fight for their own survival.”

Although Caitlyn said she’s been horrified by the statistics about bullying and abuse, she added she’s inspired by how many have overcome adversity — which is why she plans to share her “new friends” stories in the coming week.

In addition to her new blog series, Caitlyn will be opening up in E!’s I Am Cait. It premieres on July 26 at 10/9c.
