VIDEO GoDaddy pulls controversial Super Bowl ad after dog lovers protest

Dog 480

Heartless web giant GoDaddy has pulled what became a super-controversial Super Bowl commercial before it even aired, thanks to pressure brought by animal lovers the world over.

In the ad, a sweet, innocent, Robert Plant-level-of-shaggy dog bounces off the back of a moving pickup truck, and lands in the grass alongside the road. It then braves a rugged, Homeward Bound-style journey of countless miles to its owners’ new home, where it runs into the barn, elated. And a cruel, terrible woman picks it up and says “I’m so glad you’re home! Because I just sold you on this website I built with GoDaddy.”

Don’t believe me? Check it, yall:

G-Dad shared the clip online earlier this week, because apparently that is what companies do with Super Bowl commercials now. And then, following a “social media uproar,” they withdrew the ad from this Sunday’s big game. Which was probably the whole point all along.

But, even if you don’t care much for dogs (for some weird reason), there are enough logical flaws in this ad for you to be offended. First of all, who loads a dog loose into the back of a truck when moving across the country? Even Mitt Romney used a cage. Secondly, who tries to sell a dog she isn’t in possession of? And thirdly, who creates a web site just to sell a dog? That is why God invented Craigslist.

In conclusion, GoDaddy has created something of a masterpiece: an ad that manages to insult dog lovers emotionally, and, by talking down to them, every other other person intellectually. Yet here we are, talking about the damn thing. Shrewd move, GoDaddy. I never thought I would say this, but can you please stick to your pointless Danica Patrick commercials?

What do you, the viewers at home, think? Is the social media uproar justified, or is this much ado about nothing? Should we all just be walking through the woods with our dogs instead of talking about this?
