Alyson Hannigan granted restraining order against online stalker
A judge granted actress Alyson Hannigan a temporary restraining order against a New Hampshire man who has threatened Hannigan and her family.
The order requires John Hobbs, 43, to stay at least 100 yards away from Hannigan and her family. Hobbs is also banned from commenting about the How I Met Your Mother star online.
In her legal petition for the restraining order, Hannigan wrote that she has never met Hobbs, but he has written online messages suggesting that he will rape her and take her to the “after-life.” Hobbs has also allegedly threatened Hannigan’s family, including her two young children.
In a previous Facebook post cited in the filing, Hobbs wrote, “I still can marry you tomorrow… I can kill you tomorrow too.” He also threatened Hannigan’s husband, actor Alexis Denisof.
In the court petition, Hannigan said she was scared of what Hobbs might do next.
“I am in severe fear for my safety and the safety of my family,” she wrote.
According to court documents, Hobbs was recently released from a mental institution. During a police interview, Hobbs admitted that he wanted to visit Hannigan in California.
“Hobbs seemed to be living in an alternate reality,” said an officer who spoke with Hobbs and reviewed his Facebook account.
A hearing is scheduled for March to determine whether the restraining order, which protects Hannigan, her husband and two children, should be extended for three years.
