A new, unauthorized biography of Mick Jagger’s life is making a lot of salacious claims, most notably about his affairs with David Bowie, Angelina Jolie, and Carla Bruni, but another detail stuck out to us. Reportedly, at the time of Angelina’s affair with Mick, she was going through a rough patch, addicted to heroin, feeling suicidal, and allegedly did something very extreme: hired a contract killer to help her commit suicide.
Angelina had just wrapped Gia, the HBO movie based on a troubled supermodel who died of AIDS at age 26. Angelina was bald (for playing Gia’s sick scenes) and reportedly emotionally and physically drained, and addicted to heroin when she signed on to star in the music video for The Rolling Stones’ “Anybody Seen My Baby?”.
Unbeknownst to Mick, Angelina was also prone to bouts of suicidal depression — a condition aggravated by the fact that she had not yet managed to get her acting career off the ground. At one point, she even contacted a contract killer and asked how she might go about hiring him to end her life. After she’d overcome these demons, Jolie would admit that her suicide-for-hire scheme was “very weird.”
Angelina definitely has a dark side that she spoke more openly about when she was younger. Although her soon-to-be husband Brad Pitt claims that she still has a wild streak, and there are rampant tabloid reports most weeks that she’s on the verge of a breakdown, she’s probably put a lot of these issues behind her now.
In 2008 Angelina spoke out about her depression and cutting episodes because she knew she could help people. She told Entertainment Weekly:
“The reason I talked about going through certain pains of even cutting myself is that I was already out the other side. I knew there were people who did that, and were happy somebody admitted they did and discussed how they got out of it. I don’t see the point of doing an interview unless you’re going to share the things you learn in life and the mistakes you make.
“So to admit I’m extremely human and have done some dark things, I don’t think makes me unusual or unusually dark. I think it is the right thing to do and I’d like to think it’s the nice thing to do.”
