Teen Mom 2’s Kailyn Lowry reveals rape, homelessness in Pride Over Pity memoir

Kailyn Lowry - Pride Over Pity

Kailyn Lowry’s upcoming memoir, Pride Over Pity, was a true labor of love. The Teen Mom 2 star not only devoted years to the writing and editing process — but was also brave enough to revisit the most traumatic moments of her life, including her experiences with rape and homelessness.

According to publishers Post Hill Press and MTV, the memoir gives readers “a raw and brutally honest account of her troubled, often painful story and, for the first time, reveals the dark secrets she has so closely guarded… Kailyn takes the reader behind the scenes, writing candidly about her desperate stay at a homeless shelter to qualify for a program that would provide a safe home for her son, breaking her silence on the question of her sexuality, and sharing the traumatic sexual experiences that have left her deeply scarred.”

In an excerpt for the book, Kailyn wrote: “If I ever gaze at the past, I shudder. I shudder to count how many times I mistakenly thought I was loved. I quiver unpleasantly to recall the person I used to be and how I acted in some of my relationships. Looking back, it’s not surprising that I turned to boys for love so early. I needed appreciation. I needed to feel worthy. Most of all I needed support.”

Now a happily married mother-of-two, Kailyn revealed in February that topics include addiction, rape, being abandoned by her dad and “tons of things in between.” The memoir also promises to be completely different from Farrah Abraham’s My Teenage Dream Ended.

“It’ll be NOTHING like Farrah’s as far as editing goes,” Kailyn said on Facebook. “We’ve put a lot of work into this over the last couple of years and I think you all will be very surprised by it.”

Pride Over Pity will be available in hardcopy and e-book versions in April.
