Why are Lindsay Lohan and Kim Kardashian going to the White House Correspeondents’ dinner?
This Saturday night two of America’s favorite (or most hated, take your pick) tabloid queens are going to the White House Correspondents’ dinner, where they will rub elbows with the country’s most powerful politicians and distinguished journalists. Why were they chosen to go?

Fox News host Greta van Susteren invited Lindsay Lohan and her lawyer Shawn Holley to the dinner. In the past Susteren has taken Kim Kardashian, who is on the list again (with her momager Kris Jenner) this year, also thanks to Fox News. Caroline and Al Manzo are also official guests of the network.

It’s not completely unheard of for popular (and notorious) celebs to get invited. Heidi Montag was once on the list, but she declined to go because her husband Spencer Pratt was not invited. It’s probably just a ploy to drum up publicity for the event, and it definitely works.
According to the official website for the WHCD: “Proceeds from the White House Correspondents’ Association annual dinner go toward scholarships and awards that recognize aspiring and accomplished journalists.”
