Chet “Haze” Hanks, the 24-year-old rapping son of Tom Hanks, has opened up about his struggles with drug addiction.

In a recent post via Instagram – the young man who usually shares pics of himself with famous peeps, sweet rides and other privileged-life sundries revealed that he’s sobered up after suffering for years from substance abuse.

Chet Hanks wrote:

I’ve been struggling with substance abuse since I was 16 years old. Finally at the age of 24 I decided to get some help. With 50 days of sobriety under my belt, I can honestly say I’m the happiest I’ve ever been. I’m thankful for my family and everybody that cares about me, including my fans. I’ve been blessed with the programs of AA and NA which allow me to rise above this disease. I’m learning to accept my faults and be ok with being human. If anybody that sees this struggles with addiction, feel free to reach out. Thank you all for the love and support! GOD IS REAL!!!

Here’s his brief video share about the announcement in which he confirms that his abuse includes cocaine addiction (heads up – Chet uses some adult language):

Since that post Hanks has shared pics of a Benz, gave a shout out to fruits, and provided his opinion on the Michael Brown shooting in Ferguson:

This sh*t is out of control that cop doesn’t even deserve a life sentence he deserves the death penalty. Something needs to change but it will only happen if we’re all on the same page and it’s organized and thought out. #RIPMikeBrown #RIPTrayvonMartin #SaveOurChildren
