Lady GaGa’s fan base is overwhelmingly gay, and the pop/disco/art princess has described herself as bisexual, so it was very appropriate for her to throw her star power behind the gay rights rally in D.C. this weekend. She began the weekend at the Human Rights Campaign’s National Dinner, with a low-key cover of John Lennon’s “Imagine.” She changed a few of the lyrics to fit the gay rights message, but otherwise it was a straightforward cover.

The next morning at the gay rights rally in D.C., GaGa (real name Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta) stepped up to the mike in a subdued but still visibly fake wig, and suspenders that can currently be found in most self-respecting lesbians’ closets. Calling this the “single most important moment” of her career, she gave an impassioned plea to Obama to listen and honor his promise to bring change to gay rights in the U.S. She was so serious about her message that she actually wore pants.
