Here’s the first trailer of Disney’s The Lone Ranger starring Armie Hammer as the masked avenger (The Lone Ranger’s real name is John Reid,) and Johnny Depp as the bird-headed Tonto. Helena Bonham Carter also makes an appearance as saucy lady Red, TLR’s presumed girlfriend, and possible villain.
The trailer is narrated by Tom Wilkinson, who plays an unnamed villain:
From the time of Alexander the Great, no man could travel faster than the horse that carried him. Not anymore.
Imagine time and space under the mastery of man. Power that makes emperors and kings look like fools.”
That’s right, folks, trains are shooting through a horse-fueled world. It’s major cargo? Corruption, greed, and destruction.
Most backstories for The Lone Ranger involve Texas Ranger John Reid being the only survivor after an outlaw attack. Tonto finds him and helps him bury the bodies of his fellow rangers, but this Gore Verbinski-directed film might go a different route with the origin story. It looks like Tonto has spent some time in jail, and he and The Lone Ranger might be the only survivors from a bad train crash (perhaps Tonto was being transported as a prisoner?)
If nothing else, this movie promises to have stunning visuals, and plenty of speeding silver bullets and out-of-control trains.
