Sean Penn has submitted his name into the fascinatingly strange award presentation clips hall of fame with his dedication speech for actress Julia Roberts during Monday night’s 2013 Hollywood Film Awards.

An apparently inebriated Penn presented Roberts with the award for Best Supporting Actress for her work in August: Osage County. You know things are gonna be interesting when our man begins by looking backstage and asking, “Are the drinks free out here too?” He then looks at the audience and says, “Is, is, is… ‘Sorry I’ve been rambling so much,’ a bad way to start a speech?”

During the wild ride Sean, in a previously prepared speech, had many wonderful and sometimes insightful things to say about the actress he called, “Julia F**king Roberts,” but it was his diatribe about how much he enjoys watching her eat food on film that really stood out. Here’s the clip that’s cued up to this amazingly awkward moment:

“[She] is one of the select group of actresses who can make on-screen eating sexy … I could watch her eat anamorphically for hours on end. I could watch her eat for hours on end even if the food got stuck in her teeth. I want her to make an eating movie in 3-D, but with the interactive supplies not only to include the 3-D glasses, but also a virtual toothpick with which I could collect souvenirs correcting my insomnia with the comfort of those virtual muscles… morsels tucked cozily beneath my pillow.”

Think about it. How great would it be to sit there watching a Julia Roberts movie, eating in 3-D, she’s eating corn on the cob and then something gets stuck here (gestures between his teeth) and you could take your virtual toothpick and say, ‘I got that babe?'” And just take… so… personal fantasy.”

Roberts, who has always had a knack for reacting well on the fly, responded to the dedication perfectly. “Well, Jesus, how the f**k do I say anything after all that? The great Sean Penn, thank you,” she said.
